We just returned from Avery's 9-month check-up. Everything is looking good. She is in the 50th percentile for all of her stats (19 lb 14 oz, 28.5" long, and 17.5" head circumference). Her immunization shots were a piece of cake this time. She didn't cry at all when they were doing the shots, cried for maybe 10 seconds afterwards, and then was back to her usual, happy self.
They always write down her stats on a sheet of paper that has a picture on it. The picture this time was of a puppy. Avery kept pointing to the picture of the puppy and smiling. This morning, eating breakfast, she kept trying to point at Eddie, but what she ends up doing is poking him in the eye. As noted, he'll put up with anything if he thinks there might be some food at the end of it.

Bath
Yesterday, I put Avery down in the hallway upstairs and walked to the other end to do some laundry. Normally she looks at me at the other end for a bit, then crawls towards me. This time she looked at me, then started crawling furiously towards me. However, she turned left before reaching me. She went into her bathroom and crawled towards the tub, then pulled herself up and tried to climb in. She wanted a bath! I had no clue that she even associated that room with her baths. Plus, she's not been overly excited about baths, though she never cries or is upset to take them. The last few times, however, she splashes madly in the tub and seems to have a great time.
When I saw her eagerness to take a bath, I called down to Daddy, who came upstairs to give her a bath. They filled the tub together.
Avery is now starting to point at things. She especially likes to point at other babies or pictures of babies. In my office, I have three pictures framed of Avery with D and me. Everyday, we look at those and she just beams from ear to ear and points at herself in the pictures.
She's also making the "ma-ma-ma" noise. I know she's not saying mama, but I still just love it. Her babbling is starting to sound more like words and less like babble, even though she's not saying anything. The other day I said "Eddie" while petting Eddie and she repeated it. I couldn't get a repeat performance from her, but it was exciting nonetheless.
Finally, I will share my latest discovery. Avery gets a little bored with eating about half way through a jar of food or container of yogurt. She's not really full, just bored (at least from what I can tell). I can get her to finish if I call Eddie to come over and sit by me. She loves to look at Eddie. The only time he will let her pet him is if she's eating, so that is also a bonus for her. Eddie knows he gets to lick left over baby food or yogurt, so he'll pretty much put up with anything at that point. Eddie finally has a job! He charges a serving of cheese for each 15 minutes of work if anyone is interested in hiring him to help you feed your little ones.

Swimming

Squirmy
Things are chugging along here at Casa de Trio. Avery is getting faster everyday with her crawling. She'll spot a target across the room and get to it in no time flat. Since she has started crawling, she is not satisfied to simply sit on one's lap - she is officially into full-on squirmy baby mode. She pushes away your arms and squirms and wiggles until she gets somewhere other than a stationary position. It's both exciting and exhausting.
Avery and I have a new morning routine now. We sit and eat breakfast - me Grape Nuts, her trying to eat some solids (success at this is sporatic at best). Then we get her loaded up into the Beco so we can walk the dogs. The other morning, she was sitting by D in the living room while I fetched the Beco. I came back into sight and she saw the Beco. She started kicking happily and then crawled furiously towards me. She loves to ride in the Beco, and I love that she loves a dog walk so much.
Chase is fast becoming Avery's favorite game. If she thinks that I am chasing her, she starts giggling and crawling away like mad. Often, she thinks Eddie is chasing her, though I'm pretty sure he just happens to be walking behind her.
She's starting to attempt to pull herself up onto a table or ottoman - and gets frustrated when she can't figure out how to put all the motions together. It's the same frustration I saw right before she figured out crawling. She's quite close, so I think that next step will soon be here. She is doing downward dog a lot and is crawling more on her knees, though the belly crawl remains her main mode of locomotion.
I find it hilarious because she also chooses the path of MOST resistance. If she wants something, instead of crawling around my legs, she goes up and over them. Often she'll do this even when around my legs would be easier. She likes to crawl over me, or any other object in her way.

Pictures
We had a photography session with Avery in July. The photographer has posted some of the pictures on her blog. Three gorgeous pictures of Avery alone and one with her and my mom.
I absolutely love the first one. I have been in search of the quintessential Avery shot. The one that looks like the smiley, happy baby we know. Each time we've attempted it, she's not had a good time during the session. However, the third time was a charm!
D and I head into her studio in a week or so to look at all the pictures, but I'm just happy with these three if it turns out they were the only good ones!

Crawling, Eating, and All Sorts of Noises
What a fast 20 days it's been since the last post. Avery's crawling is coming along nicely. She still does the military-style belly crawl, but has gotten much faster. Also, she doesn't use her face so much. From the moment she realized she could crawl, she wanted down. No holding, thank you very much. She is strong and she is squirmy. She wants to go go go! When I lift her out of her crib, she immediately dives towards the floor. The moment she hits the floor she is off. Most of the time, I don't think she has a target in mind - she just wants to go!
The other huge news is that she is eating solids! It started only yesterday, but since then, we've had three total eating sessions. In each, she literally leans towards the spoon with her mouth open. I am not exaggerating when I say she would simply not open her mouth before this. Then yesterday, poof! She decided she wanted food. She has eaten yogurt and pears in the past two days. We'll stick with those for a few days and then move onto other flavors. I'm so excited.
I finally put together a composite video of her various antics for the past month or so. I tried to keep it short and just put in the cute stuff, but since I find everything she does cute, it's hard to edit. It's a total of 3:35 with about 10 segments in it.

Crawl!
